Hong Kong - Day 3 (Disneyland)

We decided to kick start our 3rd day in Hong Kong with dim sum. We took MTR from Tsim Sha Tsui to Prince Edward Station (HKD 5.30 per person) and walked 7 minutes to reach our first destination. Tim Ho Wan has been dubbed as one of the cheapest Michelin starred restaurant in the world. The restaurant was packed and the table arrangement was so close to each other as if you are sharing table with others. Next to our table, a friendly old couple chatted with us and told us that this is the cheapest dim sum restaurant in Hong Kong. They recommended us to try the baked bun with BBQ pork, one of the restaurant's speciality.

Restaurant staff wasn't very friendly when taking orders from us. Each table will be given a jug of Chinese tea. We ordered vermicelli roll with shrimp, prawn dumpling, pork dumpling with shrimp, baked bun with BBQ pork, congee and glutinous rice with lotus leaf. Prawns were fresh and tasty. However, I didn't really enjoy the glutinous rice with lotus leaf because it's lack of flavour and taste. On the other hand, baked bun with BBQ pork was nice. Crusty on the outside and soft on the inside.

We were so full and it's time to move to our next destination - Disneyland. Hong Kong Disneyland is located in Lantau Island. We walked to Sham Shui Po Station (8 minutes walk from Tim Ho Wan), took MTR from Sham Shui Po to Lai King, change to the Tung Chung Line (yellow) at Lai King and finally change to the Disneyland Resort Line (pink) at Sunny Bay. (HKD 15.20 per person) It takes around 40 minutes to reach Hong Kong Disneyland. You can refer to the below MTR system map to get a better idea of travel.

Hello Hong Kong Disneyland! It's my childhood dream to visit Disneyland. At last, my dream came true. I'm a big fan of Disney cartoons and Chip & Dale have always been my favourite Disney character. We bought our Hong Kong Disneyland entrance ticket on the day itself through www.klook.com (RM 272 per person). Ticket redemption was pretty easy, convenient and hassle free. Just proceed to the Automagic tickets booth located before the entrance. Print out your payment confirmation email or by using your smartphone, scan the barcode at the Automagic tickets booth. You will get your ticket instantly. Next, just scan your ticket at the entrance.

There's 7 lands for you to explore, so make sure you take the guide map at the entrance to plan your route accordingly. Park hours, fireworks times and stage shows time subject to change without notice. We were there on a Friday afternoon and park hours starts from 10.30am to 11pm.

We reached Main Street Station around 12.05pm just in time to board the train to Fantasyland.

There's 12 attractions in Fantasyland:

1. Dumbo the Flying Elephant - spinning, slow rides, small drops

2. Mickey's PhilharMagic (Dark) - 10 minutes, 3D fantasy-adventure starring Donald Duck

3. It's a Small World - 9 minutes of slow rides (children of the world sing and dance to the song "it's a small world after all")

4. Villains Garden - Disney Villains have taken over this garden to meet and greet everyone and spread some wicked fun

5. Mad Hatter Tea Cups - spinning

6. Mickey and the Wondrous Book - 28 minutes of musical show

7. Sleeping Beauty Castle

8. Cinderella Carousel (merry go round) - slow rides, spinning

9. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - dark, slow rides, spinning

10. Fairy Tale Forest - face to face with Tinker Bell

11. Snow White Grotto - wishing well

12. Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad (board the train returning to Main Street USA at this stop) - slow rides

Out of 12 attractions, we missed out Dumbo the flying elephant, Cinderella Carousel, Fairy tale forest and Snow White grotto. Queue was so long for Cinderella Carousel and Dumbo that we decided to give up on this ride. Among the list of attraction, my favourite is the Mickey's PhilharMagic. This is the best attraction in Fantasyland. Watch out for the light splashes of water and other fun surprises. Apart from that, Mickey and the Wondrous Book musical show was great too. We watched the 2pm show and I just love the standard fairy tale ending phrase "and they lived happily ever after".

It was Disney Halloween time and we get to see Mickey's Halloween Time Cavalcade at 3pm! Besides that, I managed to grab photos with Chip & Dale after the parade at Main Street USA. It was so awesome!!! However, we didn't spend much time at the Main Street and skipped most of the attractions except for the Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad.

There's 5 attractions in Tomorrowland:

1. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters - dark, spinning, slow rides

2. Hyperspace Mountain - loud, dark, thrill rides, big drops

3. Obitron - slow rides, spinning, small drops

4. Star Wars command post - face to face with the Wookiee warrior Chewbacca or R2D2

5. Jedi Temple - young recruits can test their lightsaber skills against villains such as Darth Vader, the Seventh Sister Inquisitor and Kylo Ren

We ride all the rides in Tomorrowland and the scariest is the Hyperspace Mountain. Take note that this ride is not for the faint-hearted. A roller coaster in the dark including quick sharp turns and at certain point watch out for a hidden camera! You can view your photo at the exit, after the ride. My favourite ride is the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, combination of a shooting gallery and a dark ride. Remove the laser guns from their mounts and start shooting. You will compete with your partner sitting next to you and the highest score win.

There's 5 attractions in Adventureland:

1. Jungle River Cruise - loud, water rides

2. Liki Tikis - splash of water (play with drums and water)

3. Rafts to Tarzan's Tree house - slow rides

4. Tarzan's Tree house - climb 157 steps to reach the top of the tree house

5. Festival of the Lion King - stage show (30 minutes)

We completed all the attractions in Adventureland except Liki Tikis. We watched the 4.30pm Festival of the Lion King stage show and it was fun and entertaining. We took the Jungle River Cruise at night after the fireworks display. Throughout the journey, the navigator spoke in Cantonese introducing the mysterious Rivers to us.

We had our dinner at Tahitian Terrace. We only ordered one portion between the two of us because I lost my appetite due to migraine. The weather was so hot and sunny even though it's autumn. Glad that I pulled it through the day.

After our dinner, we continue to explore other lands. There's only 2 attractions in Grizzly Gulch.

1. Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars - thrill rides (minimum height for this adventure is 112cm)

2. Geyser Gulch - fountain, water tower and water play

Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars is one of the wildest ride but not as scary as Hyperspace Mountain.

There's 2 attractions in Mystic Point:

1. Garden of Wonder - 3D illusion in the stately garden

2. Mystic Manor - loud, dark, spinning, slow rides

I was unable to capture the 3D illusion in the Garden of Wonder because it was too dark. This place is better to visit in the daytime. Mystic Manor was a fun ride too. You will board Lord Henry Mystic's Magneto-Electric carriage to view his amazing collection of art and antiquities from around the world.

Disney in the stars fireworks starts at 8pm and we waited patiently along the Main Street USA. I was hoping for a spectacular fireworks display but it was a bit disappointing. After the fireworks display, we continue to explore the park and proceed to Toy Story Land.

There's 4 attractions in Toy Story Land:

1. Barrel of Fun - meet and greet your favourite toys from the Toy Story movies

2. RC Racer - thrill rides, big drops (currently close)

3. Slinky Dog Spin - spinning, small drops

4. Toy Soldier Parachute Drop - thrill rides, big drops

Toy soldier parachute drop was really fun. Be prepared for the big drop. You can actually feel your heart drop! Besides that, it's a good chance for you to see the park from above. On the other hand, slinky dog spin is more of a relaxing spinning ride. You will receive a temporary "barking pass" and the staff will collect it from you once you have strapped into your seat.

We left the park before 11pm and took MTR from Disneyland to Tsim Sha Tsui (HKD 20.30 per person) It was a fun day. The park was well organized and clean. Disneyland really makes you feel like a kid again with all the wonder and awe.
