Hong Kong - Macau - Day 4

On our last day in Hong Kong before checking out from 3D Inn Hong Kong, I went to Tsui Wah Restaurant to take away their crispy bun served with sweet condensed milk. It was good. Combination of sweet condensed milk with the crispy bun was perfect. Love it. Tsui Wah Restaurant is located just beside our hotel stay at Mirador Mansion.

Check out process from 3D Inn Hong Kong was fast and smooth. We took MTR from Tsim Sha Tsui to Sheung Wan (HKD 9.70 per person). Do take note of the escalator etiquette in Hong Kong - "stand right, walk left". MTR in Hong Kong is very efficient. It's so convenient to go from one place to another. The MTR is clean, air-conditioned and the best part is you never have to wait long for the next MTR!

Lan Fong Yuen is just 2 minutes walk from MTR Sheung Wan Station Exit D. We were here two days ago and decided to come back for lunch. Click here to read my Day 2 in Hong Kong. I love their milk tea and toast. This round we ordered their set lunch and famous pork chop bun. Both were equally good. You just need to add HKD 2 for an iced milk tea if you order their set lunch.

There are 2 ferry terminals in Hong Kong that will take you to Macau:

1. China Ferry Terminal - located at 33 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong
2. Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal - located at Shun Tak Centre in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

The most convenient way to travel to Macau is via Turbojet in Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal and their ferry departs every 15 minutes. Additional sailings with departures every 5 minutes will be added during peak hours. First ferry departs at 7am and last ferry departs at 11.59pm. Sailing time approximately 55 minutes. You will notice there's several travel agencies in Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal. We purchased our ferry ticket from one of the travel agency (HKD 165 per person) and it's slightly cheaper by HKD 12 compared to Turbojet's counter.

Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal is located just few steps away from Lan Fong Yuen. We took the 1pm ferry and reached Macau Ferry Terminal around 2pm. You can even catch an earlier ferry if space permits.

Macau consists of Macau Peninsular and the Island of Taipa and Coloane, all connected by bridge or causeway. Macau's main attraction are the big casinos, hotels, Portuguese sites and UNESCO World Heritage sites. Many restaurants and shops accept HKD and the rate is somewhere around HKD 1 = MOP$ 1.03. There's free casino buses line up at both terminals and you will see pretty women representing their hotels and casinos, distributing coupons and information. We had our dinner at Chan Kuong Kei Restaurant, 8 minutes walk from Hotel Beverly Plaza Macau. We reached there before 6pm and managed to find a place to sit. Shortly after that, people were queuing outside the restaurant waiting for a table. The restaurant was small and packed. We shared a small table with a family of three. We ordered a plate of black pepper roasted duck and roasted pork rice. Thick succulent duck meat with a hint of black pepper taste and most importanly no gamey taste. Roasted pork rice was delicious too. Apart from that, I like their rice too. It tastes like greasy rice but not too oily. You can enjoy your meal with free flow of Chinese tea from the self-service station.

Senado Square is just 5 minutes walk from Chan Kuong Kei Restaurant. It's only 6.30pm but it's already dark outside. Lots of people hanging around Senado Square. Koi Kei Bakery is famous for almond cookies and phoenix egg roll with pork floss wrapped with seaweed. There's free sampling but we were not so keen to buy the biscuits. You can find this shop almost everywhere in Senado Square.

At the far end of the square stand St. Dominic's Church founded in 1587 by three Spanish Dominican priests who originally came from Acapulco in Mexico.

Ruins of St. Paul is one of the most famous landmark in Macau and one of my favourite tourist spot. The building looks really beautiful at night. It was originally the Church of Mater Dei destroyed by fire in 1835. It's just 7 minutes walk from St. Dominic Church.

Na Tcha temple is located beside Ruins of St. Paul. A small traditional Chinese temple dedicated to worship Na Tcha.

Next to Ruins of St. Paul is Mount Fortress. The fortress was equipped with canons and military barracks. The fort was built from 1617 to 1626 and it is the historical military centre of Macau.

One of the "must eat food" in Macau is prawn roe wanton noodles. So we head to Cheong Kei Noodles, 7 minutes walk from Mount Fortress. Restaurant staff was friendly and polite. Small shop but not crowded with people. We ordered one plate of prawn roe wanton noodles comes with a bowl of soup. The noodles doesn't have great taste but the prawn roe has strong fishy taste. I prefer to dip the noodles into the soup before eating it. Sad to say that it's not one of our favourite food here.

While heading back to our hotel, we dropped by Grand Lisboa Casino located inside the Grand Lisboa Hotel. Massive casino features five floors of gaming action. There's another casino opposite Grand Lisboa Hotel - Casino Lisboa.
