My first bittersweet Haagen Dazs experience

I've never had Haagen Dazs before and my first experience with Haagen Dazs was a bittersweet moment. My partner purposely convert his credit card reward points into Haagen Dazs ice cream vouchers so both of us can enjoy the ice cream. We were at one of the Haagen Dazs outlet in Penang just 5 minutes walk from Auto City Penang.

We ordered fruit blossom - a crunchy waffle basket holds six mini scoops of Haagen Dazs signature flavours: strawberry, mango & raspberry, blueberries & cream, vanilla ice creams, and raspberry & mango sorbet. Beautifully served with strawberry sauce, almond flakes, whipped cream and strawberry slices. You may select your own choices of ice cream flavour as well. We've selected chocolate, salted caramel, strawberry, cookie & cream, mango & raspberry and macadamia nut flavours. It's smooth, creamy and rich with just the right balance.

We have eaten almost 40% of our ice cream and my sweet experience turned bitter when I bite into something very hard. It looks like a thin transparent plastic stick. We approached the staff and immediately they change a new set of fruit blossom for us. At the same time, they carried out investigation on the foreign object.

When we were about to pay at the counter, the staff told us it's on the house. We were a bit stunned as we didn't expect to eat free! The staff were very apologetic and asked us to use the voucher for other products. The foreign object turned out to be the plastic debris from the chocolate flakes container. As a corrective action, they have already thrown away that box of chocolate flakes. However, I didn't ask for their preventive action. Anyway, I was thankful that I didn't swallow the plastic stick and at the same time walked out as a happy customer.

We decided to keep that voucher for another round of Haagen Dazs ice cream since we were too full at that time to try their other products. So, we had it at Haagen Dazs Ipoh outlet located just 7 minutes walk from AEON Mall Kinta City, Ipoh. We just ordered 3 scoops of strawberry, salted caramel & chocolate flavour ice cream. You can create your own by adding pastries such as cone, cookies, brownies or waffles. Besides that, you can add your own toppings such as chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, strawberry coulis, whipped cream, Oreo crumbs, M&Ms, chocolate love letter, cone chips, Kit Kat, chocolate crunchy pearls, salted caramel crunchy pearls, almond flakes, rainbow sprinkles and granola bar clumps.

 Haagen Dazs signature flavours: Vanilla, Belgian chocolate, Strawberry, Macadamia nut, Green tea, Royal milk tea, Cookies & cream, Salted caramel, Chocolate, Caramel biscuit & cream, Chocolate midnight cookies, Strawberry cheesecake, Banana chocolate brownie, Coffee, Mango & raspberry, Mango sorbet, Raspberry sorbet and Blueberries & cream.

Jollibee is a Filipino multinational chain of fast food restaurants. On the day of arrival, we asked our friendly Grab driver what is the must-try food in Philippines and he mentioned Jollibee. So here we at Jollibee located inside Landmark Department Store just 4 minutes (250m) walking distance from  New World Makati Hotel . We ordered 2 pieces of chicken served with rice and drink. Rice is soft. Fried chicken is crispy, flavourful and tender. It comes together with a brown gravy which taste like KFC mashed potatoes gravy. Overall it's good. Hounon Ridge Farmstay & Camping - Kundasang, Sabah

Hounon Ridge Farmstay is located at Kampung Himbaan Bundu Tuhan, 36 minutes drive from Kundasang town. The road heading to Bundu Tuhan is very steep and narrow. There's no street light and driving at night can be hazardous if you are not familiar with the road condition. Be particularly alert when driving and watch out for cows, chickens and stray dogs on the side of the road. There's 4 types of room available. If you are the adventurous type and not afraid of cold, you can even camp outside Hounon Ridge Farmstay.
